Joost Ruitenberg, DVM, PhD (66)
Since 2001 Prof. Ruitenberg is a professor of International
Healthcare, focusing on education and research within the field of Science,
Technology and Society, at the вЂњVrije UniversiteitвЂќ Amsterdam.
In addition, he is emeritus professor of Veterinary Immunology at the
faculty of Veterinary Sciences at Utrecht University, since 1984.
Prof. Ruitenberg is a Supervisory Board Member of NUMICO
and is Chairman and board member of several organizations such as the
Biomedical Technological Institute (BMTI) of the University of Twente,
The Groningen University Institute for Drug Exploration (GUIDE) and the
Biocentrum, Amsterdam. Since 1985 he is a member of the Royal Academy
of Science (KNAW). Prof. Ruitenberg obtained the DVM in 1970 in veterinary
medicine at the Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht. From 1962 until 1986 he worked
for the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment
(RIVM), from 1970 as Head of the Laboratory for Pathology, from 1980 as
Director responsible for vaccine-production, -control and -research, and
from 1986 as Deputy Director-General. From 1989 until 2001, Prof. Ruitenberg
was the General and Scientific Director of research of the Central Laboratory
for Blood Transfusion of the Dutch Red Cross (since 1998 CLB- Sanquin).
